Working pattern templates usually cover a span of 7 days, after which the pattern repeats.

To set up a template that spans over two weeks, you will need to create Continental working pattern template.

Create the Continental template

  1. Go to Setup and click Settings.

  2. Click Module Settings, then HR.

  3. Click Working Pattern Template, then Add Working Pattern Template.

  4. Enter the name of the template in the Name field.

  5. Select Continental Shift in Hours from the Type field.

  6. Enter 14 in the How Many Days before Pattern Repeats? (include rest days) field.

  7. Enter the number of days worked per week (this can be an average, if it differs from one week to the other) in the Days worked per week for sickness trigger calculations field.

  8. Add in the number of hours for each day.

    • Think of Day 1 as Monday and Day 6 and Day 7 as Saturday and Sunday.

    • Do not omit the weekend. If the employee does not work during the weekend, add 0 for days 6 and 7.

  9. Click Save.

Example

In the example above, the employee works:

  • 8 hours on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, then 6 hours on Thursday and Friday during the first week.

  • 6 hours during Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, then 8 hours on Thursday and Friday during the second week.

  • They have zero working hours during the weekend.

⚠️ Important: Continental Patterns start on the effective date of the pattern, which means Day 1 does not automatically mean a Monday. When adding this to an employee, make sure the effective date of the template is a Monday.

Assign the Continental template

  1. Go to the employee's profile and click Employment.

  2. Click Working Pattern.

  3. Click Edit.

  4. Click Add Working Pattern History.

  5. Add the start date for the Continental template.

    • Make sure this is a Monday in order for the template to repeat correctly.

  6. Select the working pattern template, then click Save.
