If you don't need to input employee numbers manually and would rather have the system generate unique numbers every time a new starter is added you will need to amend a Global setting as below:
Go to Setup and click Settings.
Click System Settings, then Global.
Search for Auto Employee Number and click it.
Make sure the Boolean box is ticked.
Select True from the Boolean dropdown and click Save.
