'Special Leave' refers to leave days booked by employees using an absence class that does not have Allow Lieu or Holiday Allowance checked. Because these days are not entered as lieu or working days they are considered special leave and will not be deducted from the employee's entitlement or lieu days.

If days are showing as 'Special Leave' on an employee's Absence page you will need to check the settings for this specific absence class:
Go to Setup and click Settings.
Click Module Settings and select HR.
Click Absence Class and search for the name of the absence class you need to amend.
Click this absence class and make sure to check either the Holiday Allowance box or the Allow Lieu box.
Click Save.
π Note: Leave that has already been submitted will not be affected. Previously submitted leave will need to be deleted and re-submitted so that the employee can enter the number of days as Lieu Days or Working Days.
Time off in lieu displayed incorrectly as special leave
Go to Setup and click Settings.
Click Module Settings and select HR.
Click Absence Class and search for 'Time off in Lieu'.
Click this absence class and make sure to check the Allow Lieu box.
Click Save.
